DEAR STUDENT:

-The words ending in one consonant preceded by one vowel, double the final consonant before a suffix beginning with a vowel.
1vowel + 1 consonant 

For examble:

run + ing = running
bi
g + est = biggest
ho
t + er = hotter


But

There is Exceptions for Doublling the final consonant spelling rules
: if the word ends with two or more consonants, or if the final consonant is preceded by two vowels instead of one.

For examble:

debt +
ed = debted
boat +
ing = boating



DEAR STUDENT:

 Words ending in y preceded by a consonant usually we change them to i before any suffic

lady + es = ladies
reply + ed = replied


But

 Words ending in y preceded by a vowel  usually  we don't change the y to i before any suffic

pray + es = prayes
visit +ed = visited

 

 
Dear Student:
When adding an ending to a word that ends with a silent (e) we usualy drop the final (e).
 Advance + ing = advancing
Surprise + ing = surprising
But
if the we don’t remove  (e) if it's not silent.
See + ing = seeing
     be + ing = being


 
Adding e

Dear Student:
We add e to the word when we add s to the end of the word, but  only if the word ends with:
Ch- s –sh –x – z
Watch + s = watches
Box + s = boxes
Go + s = goes
